From January 26th, the Swiss House Restaurant will be closed for normal lunch and dinner bookings until further announcement.

 

OPEN CHRISTMAS DAY 2015

Enjoy a beautiful meal in the gorgeous surroundings of Glen Helen.

We are again opening the restaurant for Christmas Day lunch with a 4 course menu served from 12pm through to 4pm.

Please note that we are unable to take bookings or answer calls or emails made directly to the Swiss House.

 

PRIVATE FUNCTIONS AND HIRE

The Swiss House is available for private functions and parties.

We have onsite parking, beautiful grounds for photos and reception drinks in warmer weather, a bar lounge and dining areas spread across two areas which can either be separate dining rooms or combined for bigger parties up to 80 people.

The Swiss House

There has been a restaurant on the site of the Swiss House for over 100 years catering to the needs of Victorian pleasure seekers, walkers of both the 2 leg and 4 leg varieties and increasingly, seekers of good food and warm hospitality. The Swiss House Restaurant in its current form opened on Valentine’s Day 14th February 2012 by the Mowat Family after a lengthy refurbishment to bring new life to this much loved landmark restaurant. Surrounded by beautiful forest and the natural wonders of the Glen, the restaurant offers many unique qualities which attracts diners to the Swiss House from across the Island and has worked hard to establish a loyal and successful reputation. The Swiss House embraces the principles of offering a dining experience founded on fresh, local and high quality produce, cooked and served in a friendly and welcoming setting. A central feature of the restaurant aside from its extensive gin selection and handpicked wine list is the open plan kitchen boasting the impressive Josper Charcoal Oven. Imported to the island from Spain, the oven acts like a large indoor BBQ using only premium charcoal to bake, grill or roast food at high temperatures resulting in delicious, succulent and flavoursome dishes. Glen Helen

Perhaps the best known of the Island’s glens, Glen Helen is on the western side of the Island, north of Ballacraine on the famous TT course. The glen was created in the 1860s by a consortium of Manx businessmen interested in arboriculture. They laid its paths, carried out extensive planting of trees and ornamental shrubs, constructed river bridges and opened the place to the public in 1867. The attractive name Glen Helen was likely chosen from Greek myth to reflect the beauty of the location. Today a variety of mature and impressive trees including sequoia, thuja, spruces, Douglas fir, oak, sycamore and beech can be observed. Paths traverse the glen alongside the rivers Neb and Blaber. Three quarters of a mile into the glen you will reach the dramatic Rhenass waterfall.  As well as the Swiss House restaurant, the glen has a children’s play area and toilet facilities (including disabled).

The Swiss House Restaurant offers a range of interesting and varied options for entertaining and dining – from small gatherings and celebrations to larger functions and special occassions. We can offer part or fully exclusive use of the restaurant depending on your party size and event.

The maximum capacity for a standing drinks reception is 90 and 70 for a seated meal.

Due to the flexible layout of the restaurant areas, a semi-private space within the restaurant can be reserved and is suitable for groups of between 10 and 30 people for a seated meal. A maximum of 14 people can be seated at a single table. Alternatively the whole restaurant including the bar and lounge area can be exclusively hired.

Josper Oven

What is a Josper Oven?

Josper is an elegant combination of a grill and an oven in a single machine providing optimal results with all types of food. Its high operating temperature allows you to grill and roast, preventing the product from baking, adding the unique flavour of the finest embers; a unique texture and juiciness in all products. Its a bit like having a BBQ inside an oven.

By combining the functions of an oven and grill, our Chefs work at high temperatures, sealing the product, smoking and grilling at the same time. The results are unique, and make the Josper Charcoal Oven a piece of equipment that is also unique.

The Swiss House Cafe Bar & Grill is the only establishment on the Isle of Man with a Josper Charcoal Oven, and indeed the only establishment which can truly claim to offer charcoal grilled dishes. We are delighted with the Josper Oven and hope that on your next visit to the Swiss House you too will sample the unique qualities of Josper dining.

Booking FAQ’s & Terms

    • Bookings will be offered a choice of sittings.

Making and Confirming your Booking

  • To make a reservation please contact the Boatyard Restaurant by calling 01624 845470. Alternatively you can visit the Boatyard Restaurant in person.
  • Provisional bookings will be held for a maximum of 14 days. If your booking is made on or after the 24th November a deposit will be required at the time of booking.
  • Reservations will be confirmed when we receive a signed booking form & cleared funds in payment of the deposit. If we do not receive the full deposit within 14 days we reserve the right to cancel the booking.
  • The deposit is £10 per person & is non-refundable.
  • In completing a booking form, you are confirming that you are over the age of 18 & that you are agreeing to be bound by the Terms & Conditions. You are also confirming that you are authorised to do so on behalf of all persons named in the booking & you are acknowledging that all members of the party are agreeing to be bound by these Terms & Conditions.
  • Your booking is classed as provisional until we have received the full deposit & issued a receipt.
  • The deposit will, of course, be subtracted from the final balance due.

Amendments to your Booking

Where reasonable prior notice is given The Swiss House Restaurant will endeavour to accommodate additions to the client’s booking, subject to availability. Please be aware that Christmas is a peak period & that many popular times are fully booked well in advance.

  • If the size of your party reduces in any way, we draw your attention to our policy on cancellations. Please inform us as early as possible.
  • Revisions to the food order can be easily accommodated up to the pre-order deadline. Please communicate these in writing (at least one week before the reservation date). It may not be possible to make late adjustments.

The Final Payment

  • We are happy to arrange for advance payment of food & drinks pre-orders in full via a pro-forma invoice. Please be advised that payment must clear prior to the day of the booking. Any extras must be settled on the day.
  • For all bookings, we require settlement of the full bill on the day itself (by cash, or by credit / debit card. Company Cheques can only be accepted with the appropriate guarantee card).
  • Because of potential timing problems at peak periods, we regret that a maximum of two cards per table can be taken.
  • We do not offer credit facilities without prior written agreement.

Cancellation Charges Policy

In order to avoid wastage, no-shows, cancellations & non-arrivals at our busiest time, when we will have turned alternative custom away, we are obliged to impose the following cancellation charges:

  • More than a fortnight: Deposits can be transferred into restaurant vouchers.
  • Within 14 days: £10 payable per person – from the deposit
  • Reduction in guest numbers: £10 payable per person – from the deposit.

Table Timings

We always try our best to be flexible & accommodating. It is certainly our intention to do everything we can to make your Christmas enjoyable. But we have to take into account the needs of all our guests & our staff at this time. Poor time-keeping can have a knock-on effect throughout a day which impacts on many other guests & their bookings. It can also delay your own service.

  • Please treat the reservation time as the actual time to sit down in the restaurant itself.
  • We recommend that you arrange meeting times in advance of this. If you’d like to enjoy a drink beforehand, it makes sense to allow the time to do so.
  • On certain days & at certain times you may be required to vacate your table/room by a certain time; we will discuss this with you beforehand.
  • Unfortunately if some members of your party are late, we may not be able to wait for them, & their food may have to be served awaiting their arrival – or for your other guests to share.
  • The management reserves the right to cancel a booking if guests arrive later than 20 minutes after a confirmed reservation time. In this event cancellation charges will apply.

Seating Arrangements

Large groups are advised that whilst we will do our best to seat your members on one table, this may not always be possible due the layout of our restaurant.

  • Your party will, however, be seated in the same area of the restaurant/function suite wherever possible.

Subject to Change

  • The Tartan Group Ltd, T/A The Swiss House Restaurant , reserves the right to change menus, times, prices, payment or booking conditions.

Special Requirements

  • Please advise us of any allergies, special dietary requirements or any other special needs in advance – ideally when booking or making formal, written amendments.
  • We will be happy to arrange alternatives wherever possible.
  • We cannot guarantee that nuts or nut traces will not be found in our food.

Service Charge

  • Please note a discretionary 10% Service Charge will be added to bills of 8 or more people. For tables of fewer than 8 people it is at your discretion. It is your right not to pay. If we have failed to justify it in any way, if you are unhappy about this for any reason, or if you simply disagree with the principle, please bring this to our attention & strike the amount off the bill. All members of staff receive a share of the tips including kitchen and bar staff.

Property & Goods

  • The Restaurant does not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to a client’s property & goods. The restaurant’s staff are not authorised to accept responsibility for such property or goods.
  •  We try our best always to be flexible & accommodating. It is certainly our intention to do everything we can to make your Christmas enjoyable. But we have to take into account the needs of all our guests at this time

Complaints

  •  If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of your experience you should bring the problem or issue to the attention of the duty manager as soon as possible so that all reasonable efforts can be made to rectify the situation to your satisfaction at the time.
